Engineering Geologist Qualifications Mr. Cavan graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Sciences and has completed coursework in the Certificated Program in Toxic and Hazardous Materials Control and Management from the University of California at Los Angeles. He has been licensed by the State of California Board of Registration for Geologists and Geophysicists as a Registered Geologist (RG 3783) and a Certified Engineering Geologist (EG 1161) since 1983.

Mr. Cavan has over
thirty years of
professional experience in the field of geology/engineering geology
within the Southern California area.
He has served as principal geologist for geotechnical and
environmental investigations for hundreds of projects including major
hillside residential tract developments, commercial/industrial
developments, schools and hospitals, public works projects, and geologic
hazards evaluations.
His professional experience includes the design and management of investigations involving surficial and subsurface geologic exploration and analyses for feasibility level investigations through in- and post-construction monitoring, including forensic studies. Having encountered a wide variety of often complex geologic and geotechnical conditions, specific experience includes: slope stability evaluations/landslide stabilization, hard rock evaluations, aerial photograph analysis, fault activity evaluations, seismic risk and earthquake ground motion studies, geophysical data interpretation, groundwater/hydrogeologic investigation and evaluation, and environmental site assessments. In addition, Mr. Cavan has provided engineering geologic review consultation services for the city of Simi Valley as well as third party peer reviews for both private and public sector clienteles. Mr. Cavan has provided overall coordination of the geologic, geotechnical, and environmental disciplines with regard to development projects and has authored or co-authored several articles in the field of engineering geology.
